   Home/Change Series

Walter Lantz' inimitable woodpecker has undergone some radical appearance and attitude changes over the years. The early Woody was decidedly more menacing looking, sporting a devilishly conical shaped head, squat body and large 'crazy' eyes. He was also more prone to cruel acts of mischief. The latter day Woody however (post 1960) was another animal: more slender, comical looking bird wearing white gloves and a sprightly forward-pitched crest of head feathers. At the same time, his manner became more subdued; comical without being as 'unrestrained'.
