Don Bluth's 1982 classic endures for good reasons. I believe this was the first film that Mr. Bluth produced after leaving Disney, and it's everything that the Mouseworks' films at the time were not. It even has the dubious distinction of being the first animated film to use a curse word --if "damn" really counts, though it is often edited from television broadcasts of the film. Strong story (no sing-alongs), well developed characters, beautiful design & animation. It's unfortunately too rare nowadays to find all of the above in one package.
